UK MoD awards Tornado support contracts
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) awarded an innovative contract worth some GBP130 million (USD230 million) to BAE Systems' Customer Solutions & Support (CS&S) division for combined maintenance and upgrade (CMU) work on the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) fleet of Tornado GR.4 aircraft, on 16 December 2005. It is expected that the deal will save the MoD in excess of GBP100 million over the contract's 10-year life, underlining the ministry's commitment to providing value for money.

Commercial aircraft sales boost Boeing expectations
Boeing has revised its expectations for 2006 and 2007 on the strength of strong commercial aircraft sales. * The order book ended 2005 33 per cent up on the previous year-end at USD202 billion.

UK toughens stance on JSF technology transfer
UK Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram has said the UK's technology-transfer demands "must be satisfied before we are able to commit to the next phase" of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme. * His voice adds to a growing number from within industry, the armed forces and the political sphere calling for the US to grant UK enhanced access to JSF technology.

Alenia considers making Spartans in the US
Giuseppe Giordo, president and chief executive officer of Alenia North America, has strongly hinted that if the company wins pending US Army and US Air Force (USAF) orders for light airlifters, the bulk of C-27J Spartan production could shift from Italy to the US.

India considers acquiring UK Sea Harriers
The Indian Navy (IN) is seriously considering a UK offer of eight second-hand Royal Navy (RN) BAE Systems Sea Harrier FA.2 fighters. The eight aircraft - the last Sea Harriers remaining in RN service - would operate as training aircraft to support the existing IN Sea Harrier FRS.51 fleet.
